Apex Updates: Railroad Closures, Greenways, & Big Projects Ahead!
🚆 Railroad crossings closing soon, downtown & greenway updates, and upcoming events!
Good afternoon! Spring is finally here. February was chock full of meetings, which I have already posted about here, here, here, here, here and here. Today I want to let you about a few other things going on.
Railroad Closures
Key Takeaways: Rolling railroad crossing closures are starting this week.
The biggest thing people around Apex need to be aware of is the upcoming railroad closings. Check the below map provided by CSX to see if/when they plan on closing each crossing in Apex for maintenance and repairs this month. Mason closes on 3/11, Bosco on 3/12, etc.
Office Hours next Tuesday, 3/11
Key Takeaway: Come meet and chat in person TOMORROW Tuesday, 3/11 9am at Mission Market
Time Sensitive! My next Open Office Hours is coming on Tuesday, 3/11, starting at 9am at Mission Market. This is a drop in event just to meet and chat about anything Apex on your mind. You can RSVP here.
Downtown Projects Update
Key Takeaway: The downtown projects are on schedule and moving forward
The Apex Downtown Stakeholders meeting was last week. Town staff was on hand to discuss issues like the parking lot, social district, and future downtown plans. Thank you to everyone who attended!
Some things to note:
The downtown parking lot construction is going really well, and is on schedule
"Phase 1" (the part currently blocked off) is currently scheduled to wrap up in June. Phase 2 is the gravel lot in July/August, and Phase 3 in August/September.
Salem Street project is next year. This should take about 9 months and hopefully start in January. It'll be split into two phases, one for each side of the street. All storefronts will be accessible throughout the entire project
Salem will be converted to 1 way (southbound only) during the Salem Street Project
Commerce St after Salem is done, (late 26-Spring 27)
Seaboard/Peak Gathering Space after Commerce (Spring 27-Spring 28)
Greenway Projects Update
Key Takeaways: Beaver Creek Greenway is scheduled to open late summer/early Fall, and Middle Creek Greenway should open in June.
Good progress is being made on all major greenway projects in Apex. Beaver Creek, connecting the Nature Park and Kelly Road Park, is on track despite some recent delays for a late summer/fall opening. Middle Creek Greenway is nearing completion, and we should be ready for a June opening.
And remember: we’re considering a bond in 2027 which would fund new sections of and substantially completing all 3 major Greenways (Middle Creek, Beaver Creek, and Reedy Branch)
Sidewalk Needs Map
Check out the new Sidewalk Needs Prioritization Map!
Staff put together this website that shows the "sidewalk needs" that have been identified and their relative priority.
Jefferson Griffin is Still Trying to Cancel Votes
Key Takeaways: Jefferson Griffin is attempting to cancel 68,000 votes in North Carolina, including over 400 in the Town of Apex, in an attempt to steal an election
The games continue as Jefferson Griffin works shamelessly and relentlessly towards canceling tens of thousands of legitimate votes, including votes of our overseas service men and women, in an attempt to steal a seat on the North Carolina Supreme Court.
This month I spoke at a Common Cause rally on the Apex Town Campus in support of the voters Griffin in attacking. About 200 people in Apex showed up to show their support for Democracy and, you know, actually respecting elections. Dozens of similar rallies were held all around the state. Thank you Common Cause for organizing!
I also made some maps of the voters Griffin is attempting to cancel, and you can also look at the original list to lookup by name.

Couldn’t find how to respond to the poll. I support the two most popular responses.
